In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate.
All praise is due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.Purpose of This Series
My dear brothers and sisters,
We are presenting a series on Islamic history. The purpose is to remind Urdu-speaking Muslims, especially the youth, of their true history and real heroes. Today, many consider athletes, singers, or actors as heroes, while we have forgotten our actual heroes. As a result, our younger generation is facing an identity crisis.
True Heroes of Islam
The goal of this series is to show that our true heroes are the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and his noble companions, who sacrificed everything for Islam, endured hardships, and spread the message of peace and justice in the world.
Love for the Prophet ﷺ
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:
“You will never have complete faith until I am more beloved to you than your parents, your children, and all of mankind.” (Sahih al-Bukhari)
Umar ibn al-Khattab’s Story
Once, Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) said to the Prophet: “O Messenger of Allah, you are more beloved to me than everything, except myself.” The Prophet replied: “Then your faith is not complete.” Umar then said: “Now, O Messenger of Allah, you are more beloved to me than even myself.” The Prophet responded: “Now your faith is complete.”
Why Knowing His Life is Important
This shows that for a Muslim, loving the Prophet (peace be upon him) is essential. But true love requires knowledge of his life and sacrifices. He endured insults, attacks, and great hardships just to deliver the message of Islam so that we may worship Allah, avoid evil, help orphans, widows, and the poor, and spread peace on earth.
Birth of the Prophet ﷺ
Now let us come to his birth.
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was born in Makkah in the year 571 CE known as the Year of the Elephant.According to the Islamic calendar the most reliable opinion is that he was born on the 9th of Rabi al-Awwal. On the 12th of Rabi‘ al-Awwal, however, he passed away—this is agreed upon by scholars.
The Year of the Elephant
That year was marked by a great event: the invasion of Makkah by Abraha, who brought an army with elephants to destroy the Kaaba. But Allah protected His Sacred House. The Qur’an mentions in Surah al-Fil that He sent flocks of birds (Ababil) that destroyed Abraha’s army completely.
Abdul Muttalib’s Words
At that time, the leader of Makkah was Abdul Muttalib, the grandfather of the Prophet. When Abraha seized his camels, Abdul Muttalib requested them back. Abraha was surprised and said: “I thought you would ask me to spare the Kaaba, but you are only asking for your animals.” Abdul Muttalib replied: “The camels belong to me, but the Kaaba belongs to Allah, and He will protect it.” And indeed, Allah protected His House, because it was destined to be the birthplace of the final Prophet (peace be upon him).
The Prayer of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham)
Now let us come to his birth.
