Journey Through Islamic History and the Life of the Prophet ﷺ
Look at the earth, look at the sky — just look at the sun rising from the polytheists; a nation that forgets its history becomes at the mercy of other nations. History should be such that it is fertile with examples of justice, peace, morality, courage, and sacrifice. The beginning of the history of Islam is with the unparalleled sacrifices and struggle of the Messenger of Allah, Muhammad (peace be upon him). To pass through doubts and stages about this history, begin the journey with our historian Adnan Rashid. While studying the life of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) we will shed light on the history of the Rightly Guided Caliphs and review great achievements such as the Conquests of Islam. Covering the political complexities of the Umayyads and Abbasids, their civilization, wars, and the role of Salahuddin, we will also review the Mamluk period and the Mongol invasions. La ilaha illa Allah, La ilaha illa Allah.
Understanding the Life and Foretelling of the Prophet ﷺ
So that you may become aware of Islamic history and take inspiration from it, we begin with the Seerah of the Prophet (peace be upon him). Why is it necessary for us to know him? A man who lived fourteen hundred years ago, born among the rugged, rocky mountains of Makkah — in a barren land where agriculture is not possible — Allah created this Prophet. First, we will see what his importance was: were there earlier prophecies about him, or did his coming appear suddenly without any foretelling? Unlike false prophets who arose after him and had no prophecies behind them, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) had many prophecies already existing, as the Qur’an itself affirms.
Prophecies of the Prophet ﷺ in the Torah and Gospel
The Qur’an declares that Jews and Christians know the Prophet of Allah as they know their own sons. In Surah Al-A‘raf (7:157) Allah states that Muhammad (peace be upon him) was written in their scriptures, the Torah and the Gospel. Thus his claim to prophethood was not personal, but revelation from Allah. Many prophecies about him can be found even today in the Old and New Testaments.
Bible Prophecies About Prophet ﷺ and His Family
For example, in Deuteronomy (33:2), three locations are mentioned: Sinai (linked to Moses), Seir (linked to Jesus), and Paran (linked to Makkah, the place where Ibrahim left Ismail and his mother). This indicates that the final prophet would come from Paran — that is, Makkah. Similarly, in Isaiah 42, a prophecy speaks of a prophet from Arabia connected to the dwellings of Kedar (descendants of Ismail). The genealogy of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), as recorded by scholars like Ibn Ishaq and Ibn Sa‘d, clearly shows his descent from Ismail through Kedar.
Lineage of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ
Although the Prophet (peace be upon him) himself advised that his lineage be traced only up to ‘Adnan, scholars recorded it further despite disagreements. Yet there is no doubt that he was a descendant of Ismail. Therefore, prophecies in Isaiah and other scriptures point directly to him.
Prophecies of a Prophet After Jesus ﷺ
In the New Testament too, Jesus (peace be upon him) is recorded as saying that after him another would come to guide people into all truth and complete what was left. Christians interpret this as the Holy Spirit but the context shows it refers to a prophet to come after him.
Fulfillment of Prophecies Birth of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ
Centuries later Allah fulfilled all these prophecies with the birth of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) in Makkah. In our next session, we will discuss his birth and early life, InshaAllah.
